I locked myself away over stalker torment

LILY’S HELL AS ‘COPS IGNORE KILL THREAT’

- ® by SAM MAYERS news@dailystar.co.uk

LILY Allen became a prisoner in her own home because police refused to believe she was being terrorised by a stalker who “wanted to kill me”.

The singer has lifted the lid on her seven-year torment at the hands of disturbed fan Alex Gray.

But when officers refused to take her complaints seriously she locked herself away for months fearing he would attempt to murder her.

Gray, who was eventually convicted of harassment and then sectioned indefinitely by a judge in 2016, broke into Lily’s home and planned to stab her in the face.

Offensive

He had contacted the singer on social media, given her offensive letters and passed on a “romantic CD”. Speaking on George Ezra & Friends podcast, 32-year-old Lily said: “It was really horrendous, he broke into my house and it later transpired he did intend to kill me and that really spun me out.

“It wasn’t validated by the police, they sort of tried to play it down, and it wasn’t until the trial that I found out what his intentions were.”

Lily said the police continuously reassured her “everything is fine” and she felt unable to turn to anyone as they failed to take her reports seriously.

She continued: “Because of the lack of validation by the police I didn’t feel I could talk to anyone about it, not friends or family.

“When a crime is committed, people’s point of reference is how serious the police take it.

“So when I was saying: ‘This guy broke in and it was really scary’ people asked: ‘Well what does the police say?’ and I go: ‘They say not to be scared and everything is fine.’

“I just didn’t want to talk about it. I became cut off. I was spending all my time at home alone. I slept a lot, and I cried a lot.”

The star had previously said in a statement how she was “left terrified for me and my children’s safety” when Gray entered her bedroom in her London flat.
