Biggest album and biggest single sure is reason for the pair to celebrate. MOVING an incredible 12 times in 24 years sounds like a recipe for disaster but not for Alice Merton.

The German/Canadian/ English songwriter used her frustratio­n about living out of boxes to write debut single No Roots.

The super cool, bass-heavy single about not having a convention­al home has become a European hit and now Alice is thanking her parents.

She told me: “It was tough when I was younger, always moving and leaving friends, I hated it.

“But it has made my career, life on the road touring easier as I never feel homesick, so in a way I’m thankful for that.”

Plus Alice added that it’s made her an “expert packer” as her mum always taught her to pack light: “My mum would throw stuff away and she decided what went, that was always hard for me.”

Now, Alice is working on her debut album. still can’t listen to records 24 years after death. He said: “For years I couldn’t even listen to any music, let alone a Nirvana song. When Kurt died, every time the radio came on, it broke my heart. I don’t put Nirvana records on, no. Although they are always on somewhere. “I get in the car, they’re on. I go into a shop, they’re on. For me, it’s so personal. I remember everything about those records; I remember the shorts I was wearing when we recorded them.”
