SHAQ LEADS THE ATTACK

- By DAVE ARMITAGE

XHERDAN SHAQIRI says Stoke have to go to war to save their Premier League skins.

The Potters are chasing two wins from their remaining games against Crystal Palace and Swansea to beat the drop.

And Swiss star Shaqiri sent out a battle-cry, insisting Paul Lambert’s men can do just that.

Ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with the Eagles Shaqiri said: “We need to win. Sometimes you have to go through a war in these situations. We need 11 warriors out there on the pitch.

“We’re confident – we’re ready. We can put pressure on the others. We are the early kick-off and the crowd will be going crazy.

“The crowd will push us on. Hopefully that will lift our performance and we will be giving everything.

“The pressure is not just on me, it’s on every single one of us. But we’re confident. I think the end of the season is going to be something big for us and that we are going to stay up

“Two wins would give us a really good chance of staying in the Premier League. We’re confident we can do it.”

Shaqiri looks certain to leave at the end of the season whether Stoke stay up or not.

But he’s refusing to look beyond this month, adding: “The most important thing is to stay up. Everyone knows I’m a player who wants to play at the highest level.

“But I have two years of my contract left. We have to see what happens here and take it from there.

“I’m happy here. We will sit down at the end of the season but keeping this club up is the most important thing now.”
