MONTY Python star Eric Idle is making Spamalot: The Movie.
The 75-year-old comedian is currently penning a script to turn his hit musical comedy about the legend of King Arthur into a film.
Spamalot is based on the 1975 flick Monty Python And The Holy Grail.
And the stage show includes the numbers Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, He Is Not Dead Yet and The Fisch Schlapping Song.
Details of who is to star in the upcoming movie have yet to be revealed but filming is due to start next spring.
Insiders claim the film version will be different to the stage show, which has wowed audiences on Broadway and in the West End since 2005.
When the musical was first staged, the other members of the Monty Python team had mixed views about it.
Terry Jones, 76, said it was “utterly pointless”, adding: “It’s full of air – regurgitating Python is not high on my list of priorities.”
But Michael Palin, 74, revealed himself to be a fan of the show.
He said: “We’re all hugely delighted that Spamalot is doing so well because we’re all beneficiaries! It’s a great show. It’s not Python as we would have written it.”
And John Cleese was even more positive, with the 78-year-old funnyman gushing: “I defy anyone to go and not have a really fun evening.
“It’s the silliest thing I’ve ever seen and I think Eric did a great job.”
After the musical Spamalot was up and running, the Pythons were successfully sued by film producer Mark Forstater.
He claimed he was entitled to royalties because he had worked on the Holy Grail and was effectively “the seventh Python”.
