Keeping Cherries up just the start for Asmir

- By ALEX CROOK

ASMIR BEGOVIC says Bournemouth staying in the Premier League will prove he was right to quit Chelsea.

Former title winner Begovic left Stamford Bridge to join Eddie Howe’s men for £10m last summer.

Bournemouth have flirted with danger but can seal survival for another season with a point against Swansea today.

Asked if safety would vindicate his decision, Bosnian keeper Begovic (inset), 30, said: “For the short term, yes.

“It has been great to have the trust of the manager and the players, so hopefully I have been consistent enough.

“I want to keep achieving, keep winning and keep this club moving in the right direction.

“There is plenty more to achieve.

“We just need to pick up points against

Swansea and finish our home campaign on the right foot.

“This club has the platform and the potential to keep progressing and can be anything it wants to be.” Nathan Ake, another Chelsea import, has caught the eye.

Cherries chief Howe hailed the 23-year-old Dutch defender, saying: “Nathan has been a model of consistency, not just on match-day but every day in training.

“Whatever he is asked to do he will give his best. He will commit to the weight sessions, recovery sessions, whatever it is. That is the mark of a model pro and someone who will improve.

“We had a big fight to get him in the summer, it wasn’t easy, and I’m delighted he has had such a great season. “A player of that quality and with the attitude he has is tough to recruit in this day and age.

“He is good enough, will only get better and is a great age. “He has got the attitude you can build a team around.

“He is a winner and wants to do everything to progress his career.”
