Beware the licence blitz

-

ANGLERS are being urged to make sure they stay legal this weekend as bailiffs hit the nation’s fisheries in a Bank Holiday licence blitz.

The new Environment Agency rod licences are now in force for the year and anyone fishing freshwater requires a permit. Last year’s licence expired on March 31.

Traditionally a busy period for fisheries, this year thousands of anglers can expect to be joined by the EA’s team of bailiffs.

A 12-month, two-rod trout and coarse licence costs £30 and a three-rod version is £45. Under-17s can fish for free, but still need to register online. Single and eight day licences are available.

Another angler enjoying double delight this week was Paul Faint, who slipped the net under two perch over 4lb.

The stripeys scaled 4lb 7oz and 4lb 1oz and fell to legered lobworms from a pit in Hertfordshire’s Lea Valley.
