Sam: I suit the Everton Brand
SAM ALLARDYCE says he can thrive in a new management team at Everton next season.
With Allardyce’s future at Goodison Park under scrutiny, the club’s major shareholder Farhad Moshiri is preparing a shake-up.
PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands (right) is being courted by Moshiri, leaving the position of Everton director of football Steve Walsh in major doubt.
Allardyce admits that the days of a manager running a leading club from top to bottom are over.
Asked if he needed a director of football, Allardyce said: “Yeah, I do, because he needs to get out and about and ask questions and start the process internally and then move a deal forward.
“My position with Marcel Brands is that when Farhad says he is officially here, which I haven’t heard, our position has to be to have the right flow for all departments.
“We need to be brave enough to say no sometimes in the transfer market and not be held to ransom. We can progress. But I think that all depends on the recruitment in the summer, what the quality of the player might be, and whether we can get them through the door.”
Allardyce says managerial instability has never been greater at the top level with fans demanding instant success.
He cites the example of today’s visitors Southampton, who are on their third boss in 12 months, Mark Hughes.
Allardyce said: “Clubs make a decision because of the fall-out of going out of the Premier League.
“This is why we have seen a record number of managers leave their posts this season, which is worrying for managers in the game.”
