CITY LEGEND’S PLEA TO BOSS

- By JEREMY CROSS

MANCHESTER CITY legend Mike Summerbee wants Pep Guardiola to remain at the Etihad for life.

Summerbee will watch Guardiola’s squad being presented with the Premier League trophy before tomorrow’s visit of Huddersfield to the Etihad.

The historic moment will take place 50 years after Summerbee was part of a City team, including legends Colin Bell, Tony Book and Francis Lee, which won the 1968 First Division title.

With Guardiola poised to sign a new contract extension, Summerbee reckons the Spanish coach can turn his beloved club into the most powerful on the planet.

“But nowadays everyone, from the goalkeeper to the full-backs, to two wing-halves, can all play, all can control and pass the ball.

“I’d like to see him stay forever. I think you’re looking at an era of huge success now.

“He’s created something that you know will be long-standing.

“I think that they can go on from here. I think they’ll get even better. I think they’ve got a big chance (of winning back-to-back titles).

“I’m getting old, but I hope to be around to see a few more trophies at this club.”

Guardiola is regarded as the world’s best boss after following title triumphs in Spain and Germany by masterminding City’s league success with five games to spare.

Summerbee, 75, added: “We’ve got a team here under Pep that
