MACCA’S £820M FAB FORTUNE

- By RUTH McKEE ruth.mckee@dailystar.co.uk

SIR Paul McCartney has been named the wealthiest UK musician with a fortune amounting to £820million.

He tops the Sunday Times Rich List of UK music stars.

Second is theatreland ace Andrew Lloyd Webber, worth

£740m. But Sir Paul is also the richest musician in the history of the list.

The singer, who wrote hits such as Hey Jude and Yesterday, has a combined wealth of £820m with his wife, heiress

Nancy Shevell.

Their fortune has shot up by £40m in the past year thanks to money flooding in from the Beatles back catalogue and his 37-date tour.

Singer-songwriter sensation Ed Sheeran has added £28m on to his huge fortune in the last year.

His wealth has grown more than any other British musician thanks to his mega-hit album Divide.

The 27-year-old already has an overall net wealth of £80m.

His massive bank balance makes him the second-wealthiest young musician – just behind London songstress Adele who is worth £140m.

And pop babe Rita Ora has made the list this year for the first time, despite only releasing one album.

She is worth £16m, and is 11th in the list of wealthiest young musicians. The Fifty Shades Freed actress, 27, has big money deals with Adidas and DKNY.

Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards saw their fortunes rise thanks to their tour schedule.

And pop rocker Robbie Williams also enjoyed a £15m bump up the list – bringing his total worth to £165m.

Robert Watts, the compiler of the Sunday Times Rich List, said: “For years our music millionaires list has been dominated by older acts, such as the Rolling Stones and Sir Elton John, who have an older audience able to pay a premium to see their favourite acts.

“But some of the biggest risers have been among younger acts.

“Streaming services, the internet and income from endorsements are helping today’s young musicians build an international following – and with it their fortunes – far quicker than the older rockers. It won’t be long before some of these newcomers will surpass the wealth racked up by rock legends.”
