RIO’S CRUSADE
Ace joins DNA battle on cancer
RIO Ferdinand is helping to wage war on breast cancer.
The former England football captain has signed up with a top genetics company following his wife’s death from the illness.
The 39-year-old has become a health adviser for DNAFit, which uses genetic testing to prevent serious illnesses.
His appointment comes three years after he lost his wife Rebecca Ellison to breast cancer, aged just 34. Rio, who has invested in the firm, is hoping that educating people about their DNA will raise awareness of health risks.
The ex Manchester United star said: “I’m excited to join DNAFit team to help our nation discover the potential of personalised wellness through the use of our genetics.
“I want to help people live healthier, happier lives. My own family has suffered huge personal losses to diseases such as cancer.
“I see my investment as an investment into the future of UK health.”
The father of three has found love again with former Towie beauty Kate Wright, 26, and the Star yesterday told how she has revealed that Rio’s children would like her to give them another sibbling.
Avi Lasarow, from DNAFit said: “Rio’s passion is contagious and he will be a vital part of a team that will make a significant impact.”
