Deadly Rees can shoot Bromley to Wembley glory

- GEOFFREY THOMAS

LONG after the last Chelsea and Manchester United fans have deserted Wembley after today’s FA Cup final, the famous stadium hosts non-league finals day tomorrow.

The FA Vase kicks off at 12.15 and the FA Trophy at 4.15, with both games live on BT Sport.

There will be a new name on the FA Trophy this season and Bromley look deserved 5-4 favourites to get the better of Brackley.

Neil Smith’s side had their National League play-off hopes dashed after losing to Maidenhead, but they enjoyed a good season, finishing ninth. Bromley look to have more attacking options from midfield. Josh Rees scored 16 league goals in the campaign while the useful Louis Dennis netted 14 times and made the National League team of the season.

In the earlier Vase decider, Northern League Division One outfit Stockton Town are 5-4 favourites with BetVictor to see off Hellenic League Premier Division side Thatcham Town, who can be backed at 6-4. In what looks like a tight affair, the draw could be the best play at 11-4.

The weather has improved recently, so it is exactly the right time to welcome back Test cricket.

On Thursday the England-Pakistan series begins with the first Test at Lord’s.

England recall Lancashire’s Jos Buttler after a successful IPL stint with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored five successive 50s.

The home team have also brought Somerset’s young spin bowler Dom Bess into the squad, but the matchwinner could turn out to be captain Joe Root, who will be batting at his favoured No.3 position.

Root has found runs difficult to come by this season when turning out for Yorkshire, but he has both the attitude and ability to turn it around on the international stage.

England are 8-15, Pakistan are 4-1 and the draw is available at 9-2.
