DRIVER ON THE RUN AFTER CLUB DEATH
Revellers mown down by car
A DRIVER was being hunted last night after a car ploughed into revellers outside a club, leaving one man dead.
Eyewitnesses said the carnage happened following a brawl.
One of those involved then got into a black Audi A4 and appeared to steer it into a crowd of people before driving away.
The horror happened at the Salisbury Club in Brinnington, Stockport. Police said there were multiple casualties. The man who died was named locally as Nathan Marshall.
The Audi was later abandoned in the middle lane of the M60 two miles away.
Det Insp Kris Williams, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “My thoughts go out to the man’s family who sadly have to deal with the tragic news that their loved one has died. From what we know so far we believe the driver of the car scaled the fence next to the motorway and ran away.” Eyewitnesses said the fight broke out outside the club around 10.45pm on Sunday. Sharon Mills, 44, said: “A man got into his car and ran over a few people. It was horrible.” Another local added: “We saw a lad on the floor who looked in a really bad way.” Floral tributes were left at the scene. One read: “Sorry, I tried my hardest, best wishes, Drew.” Police said the incident was not terrorrelated. A spokesman added: “Inquiries into the incident and efforts to trace the driver of the car are ongoing.”
