PRIMARY KIDS GET PLUS-SIZE UNIFORM

- By ALEXANDER BROWN alex.brown@dailystar.co.uk

BRITAIN’S fat crisis has hit a new low with high street chains now offering plus-size ranges for children.

H&M have launched “generous fit” jeans and shorts for children as young as eight.

Next are also selling a “Plus Fit” range of trousers for tots as young as three. They offer trousers for 10-year-olds with a waistband of 27in, two inches more than standard.

Tesco has also introduced a “Plus Fit” uniform for children aged three to 16.

The trousers for five-yearold boys have a 25in waist, four inches bigger than a regular size.

Marks & Spencer also has plus-size options for its uniforms including blazers, trousers, and shirts. At age

13-14, the trouser waistband measures up to 35.5in with the average adult male waist size being 37in.

New figures reveal one in three children is overweight by the time they leave primary school aged

10 or 11, and one in five is obese.

Things only get worse as they get older, with 23% of

11-15-year-olds also classed as obese. Research from the Local Government Association show 22,000 Brit children are severely obese by the time they leave primary school.

The National Obesity Forum’s Tam Fry said: “It is shameful that so many chains now have to cater for plus-size children who are so very young.”
