Salah race to make opener

- By MIKE WHALLEY

MO SALAH’S World Cup dream is still alive. Liverpool’s Egypt forward flew to Spain yesterday for treatment on the shoulder injury that forced him off in the first half of Saturday’s Champions League Final loss in Kiev.

Liverpool expect Salah (pictured arriving in Spain last night) to be out of action for “three to four weeks” with sprained shoulder ligaments.

But Egypt’s first World Cup game is against Uruguay two weeks on Friday.

Four weeks out would leave Salah unavailable until the knockout stages but Liverpool physio Ruben Pons hopes to get him back more quickly. He said: “He is sad about what happened but he is totally focused on recovery and seeing when he can be ready. In principle, it will be from

three to four weeks but we are going to try to reduce those deadlines – that’s the big goal.”

Salah, 25, was crocked when he was dragged down by Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The Spaniard’s challenge sparked widespread anger and there has even been a petition calling for FIFA to punish the Spain captain – which has attracted around 500,000 signatures.

Pons initially feared the worst, saying that the forward “never complains” when he is on the wrong end of bad challenges – but did this time.

He said: “We knew that it was something serious as soon as he fell on the ground because he never complains. We feared the worst.”
