Watford set price for Silva

- By DARREN WITCOOP

WATFORD are demanding £15m in compensation from Everton for tapping up ex-boss Marco Silva.

Silva was announced as the Toffees’ new manager on Thursday – almost nine months after the Blues first began their pursuit.

Everton were willing to pay £11m to the Hornets last October to secure Silva’s release, only for the club to reject the offer.

Watford, who later axed Silva, filed an official complaint to the Premier League for the “illegal approach”.

They claimed their season had been destabilised and believe this entitles them to a bigger compensation fee.

And now that Silva has been appointed at Goodison Park, Watford believe their claim has only been strengthened further.

Pressure

The two clubs remain at loggerheads over the price for the Portuguese boss.

If nothing is agreed then the Premier League will step in and decide the compensation.

Meanwhile, Everton captain Phil Jagielka says he is looking forward to working with Silva.

The defender, 35, said: “Everyone I’ve spoken to about him has said they’ve really enjoyed playing under him.

“I’ve got a few good friends at Watford and Hull and I haven’t heard a bad word said about him.

“I know the players and the fans will all get behind him. We have a new manager and new ideas and everyone’s excited.

“That attacking brand is what the fans love to see here. If we can do that and the results come too, everyone will be happy.

“There will be a little bit of added pressure coming back, with everyone needing to perform straightaway. It’ll be like the first day at school.

“We want to get off to a good start next season.”
