George Gilbey faces jail for attack on ex

JPs heard he had five previous convictions – four driving offences and one of criminal damage in 2011.
Gilbey – who admitted drinking five small glasses of wine, “two or three” double vodkas and a shot of Jagermeister – claimed Gemma had attacked him.
He said her jealousy over the attention he received from other women due to his TV fame had led to their break-up.
But Nicholas Bennett, chair of the bench at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court in London, said: “We find Miss Conway was subjected to a sustained attack by Mr Gilbey who also caused criminal damage to her flat.”
The reality telly star, 34, who also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, was accused of causing about £400 worth of damage by throwing lamps, a TV and a baby gate at Ms Conway.
The court saw pictures of “strangulation marks” on her neck and bruising on her arms.
Giving evidence, Ms Conway said she had been with Gilbey for around two-and-a-half years but “the relationship wasn’t working” and she moved into her own property in Twickenham, London.
She said on the evening of the attack, Gilby was “glassy-eyed, stumbling and slurring his words”.
She added: “He was just throwing things at me. At one point he had his hands around my throat. The whole time he was just calling me a f***ing b***h.”
Beginning to sob, she told the court: “It panicked me as I could feel the strangulation.
“When the TV came on me I thought ‘I’m in real trouble here.”
Gilbey, of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, who denied the charges, was bailed pending a sentencing hearing next month.
