Swans pay up to get Potter

- by JAMES CANDY

GRAHAM POTTER is the new manager of Swansea.

The relegated Welsh club yesterday agreed a compensation package with Swedish side FK Ostersunds after two weeks of talks.

“Swansea City can confirm a compensation package has been finalised with Ostersund for the services of Graham Potter,” read a club statement.

“The club has also agreed personal terms with Potter along with his assistant Billy Reid and recruitment analyst Kyle Macauley, who are set to join him at the Liberty.”

Former Stoke and Southampton defender Potter, 43, has been tasked with taking the Swans back to the Premier League after their 18th-place finish and relegation under former boss Carlos Carvalhal.

Potter’s Ostersunds side won the Swedish Cup in 2017 after successive promotions in 2012 and 2013 put them in the top flight for the first time in their history.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins believes he is the man to bring the ‘Swansea way’ back after watching Ostersunds’ fluid style during their run to the Europa League round of 32.

They went out on aggregate despite beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates after a memorable run which also included victories over Galatasary and Hertha Berlin.

Potter will be Swansea’s seventh boss in four years. STYLISH: New Swansea boss Graham Potter
