ROBBIE Williams has told his terror fleeing a fire at a top hotel.

He and wife Ayda Field were filmed racing from the inferno.

Robbie had been standing on his balcony at the Mandarin Oriental when he spotted smoke streaming from the floor above.

The 44-year-old pop star said: “I went on the balcony and looked up and there was just billows and billows of smoke. I came back in and said, ‘The hotel’s on fire’.

“The next thing there was a knock at the door and a bellboy said, ‘Get out’.”

He and Ayda fled to safety down a fire escape along with 34 other guests and 250 staff.

Around 120 firefighters tackled the blaze in Knightsbridge, west London.

Some staff at the luxury hotel revealed later they had been convinced the commotion was part of fire drill training day.

One woman explained: “It was fire alarm testing day so when the alarm went off, none of us moved for about two minutes.

“But then when we saw the guests going and the alarm carried on, we thought perhaps we had better get out. We could see the fire then and it was pretty huge.”

The blaze happened just a week after the hotel finished a £185million refurb.

Guests have been moved to other hotels. Management say they have no idea when it will reopen. London Fire Brigade are investigating.
