JESSE STONE: STONE COLD (2005) *** Channel 5, 3.20pm

Tom Selleck reprises his role as a hard-drinking chief of police in this made-for-TV mystery based on the works of Robert B Parker. Stone is jolted out of his humdrum routine in the picture-perfect (and ironically named) town of Paradise when murders start occurring and a 16-year-old girl turns up claiming she was raped. Mimi Rogers co-stars.

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (2002) **** ITV, 10.45pm

The movie that put Keira Knightley on the map, this light-hearted comedy stars ER’s Parminder Nagra as a British-Asian tomboy who has to hide her love of footie from her strict Indian parents. After accepting a place on a semi-profession­al team, she goes to all kinds of lengths to keep her secret from them. Co-starring Jonathan Rhys Myers.

REAL STEEL (2011) **** BBC1, 11.55pm

Hugh Jackman stars in this warming story set in a future in which the biggest sports spectacles are epic boxing matches between robots. Jackman’s Charlie, a washed-up human prize fighter, makes his living promoting a broken-down robot boxer, until his smart 11-year-old son finds a relic and they restore it to become a potential champ. Hope Davis and Evangeline Lilly co-star.

PRIEST (2011) *** Channel 4, 12.05am

Sci-fi, action and horror are combined in this flick starring Paul Bettany. A former priest warrior, he’s one of the few left in a world devastated by a war between humans and vampires and now dominated by the Church. When his niece (played by Phil’s daughter Lily Collins) is kidnapped by murderous vampires, he breaks his vows to embark on an obsessive quest to find her. ***** Don’t miss it **** Good ***Average **Time filler *Garbage!
