BISH BASHED

Two-try Ben wallops Warriors

- 32 16

BEN JONES-BISHOP piled on the misery for under-pressure Shaun Wane and Wigan.

The Warriors were reeling from a dramatic week that saw Joel and Sam Tomkins punished for a disgraceful pub incident.

They also needed a big game to stop the rot that has set in since Wane dropped the bombshell of his shock exit.

But Trinity deservedly doomed them to a third successive defeat since Wane announced he is leaving at the end of the season.

Jones-Bishop led the way with his two tries, the second a 90-metre interception from a Sean O’Loughlin pass.

But it was Wakefield’s pack that pummelled a badly-weakened Wigan forward line-up into submission.

The Warriors had several injuries and Joel Tomkins was serving the first of his four-game ban for his vile video outburst.

Brother Sam, who was fined £5,000, was allowed to play but there was nothing the full-back could do to stop Trinity.

They took the lead after only eight minutes when Ryan Hampshire and Max Jowitt combined to send in the impressive Jones-Bishop.

Hampshire, a former Wigan play-maker, missed the conversion but then kicked a penalty and Wakefield’s confidence grew.

Wigan, though, looked out of sorts and were not helped when Tommy Leuluai was sin-binned for an off-the-ball tackle on Justin Horo.

It was the second week running the hooker had been shown the yellow card and it proved costly.

Penalty

Bill Tupou slid over when Wakefield ran the resulting penalty and Hampshire added the goal and then kicked another penalty.

Wigan’s inability to score a point, let alone a try, had gone past the three-hour mark before Gabe Hamlin finally scored.

His 36th minute debut try gave Wigan hope at 14-6 at half-time but Jones-Bishop quickly killed that with his second try.

England hopeful Tom Johnstone punished a Willie Isa mistake for a try that stretched Wakefield’s lead further.

At least Wigan refused to roll over and scored late consolation tries from Tom Davies and Morgan Escare.

But Wakefield had the last word with a touchdown from big Aussie prop Pauli Pauli and a sixth goal from the reliable boot of Hampshire.
