Andy to resume service
ANDY MURRAY steps back onto his beloved grass tomorrow for the first big examination of his long-awaited comeback.
Murray, 31, is competing in the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club and faces Australian star Nick Kyrgios in his first competitive match since Wimbledon last July.
The Scot said: “It would be naive of me to expect to play well immediately. It’s going to take time.
“This week will tell me a lot about the progress I have made. I’m not expecting to be perfect, I just want to get back to competing.
“I won’t really know how I am until after about two to five weeks, I’ll see what works and what doesn’t. I might never be properly fit. Who knows?”
Murray has got himself ready to play again after 342 days out and a serious hip injury that needed surgery.
And he is banking on his medical advice being correct, adding: “I just don’t know if I have a lengthy career ahead of me still.
Train
“The doctors I work with believe that’s going to be the case, but I don’t know how I am going to feel when I start competing.
“I’ve made some big changes to the way I train, in terms of the amount of time I spend on court and in the gym, to take some of the load off my body.
‘When I play against Kyrgios that will be another stage in my rehab, so there are no guarantees how I am going to feel after that. I would love to get back to the top.”
Johanna Konta blew her top with the umpire as she lost 6-3 3-6 6-4 to Ashleigh Barty in the final of the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham.
Konta recovered to win the second set and she showed impressive resilience to come back from 4-1 down in the decider to level at 4-4.
But the British No.1 was furious with the umpire for not overruling a Barty shot that looked long as the Australian held for 5-4.
She said to the official: “It’s an absolute joke. You’re making decisions that affect our lives. Do you fully understand that?”
Konta won only one more point as Barty clinched victory with a backhand pass.
