William opens heroes’ centre
UNVEILING: Prince PRINCE William and Theresa May have unveiled a new £300million armed forces trauma and rehabilitation centre.
The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre has been purpose-built to help our heroes recover from injuries and trauma.
It will see a string of services transferred from Headley Court, Surrey, which has treated the nation’s servicemen and women for more than 70 years, to the new site at Stanford Hall Estate, Notts.
William said: “I have seen the growth of an idea transfer into what we see today – and it is a rare and immensely satisfying thing to have witnessed.”
The DNRC was the idea of the 6th Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor, who helped fund it with a massive gift of £70m.
Following the duke’s death in 2016, his son Hugh gave the centre to the Government.
The PM said: “There can be no greater gift than giving people the chance to live their lives to the fullest – and for our most seriously injured servicemen and women, that could not be truer.”
