GERRARD’S WAYNE ADVICE

- By MIKE WHALLEY

STEVEN GERRARD has urged Wayne Rooney to quit the Premier League and head for the United States.

Rooney, 32, is still making up his mind on whether to leave Everton for Major League Soccer – after weeks of talks with DC United.

The former England captain has a year left on the contract he signed on his return to Goodison from Manchester United 11 months ago.

But new Everton boss Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands have both told Rooney that he can leave this summer.

Gerrard made his own move to the States when he left Liverpool for an 18-month stint with LA Galaxy in 2015. And the new Rangers

manager thinks that his former international team-mate will benefit from a similar change of scene.

He said: “I hope he makes it. I enjoyed my time in MLS and enjoyed the life experience.

“With where Wayne is now in his career, I think it would be great for him and his family to settle in an incredible state and see a lot of America.

“It is a life experience I’ll never forget and I hope he goes and has the same.” EVERTON defender Ramiro Funes Mori has joined Spanish side Villarreal for £2m.
