Soares: Let’s all be hair-oes
CEDRIC SOARES reckons Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal team-mates should all copy him by growing goatees.
Ronaldo was sporting one as he struck his 85th goal for his country in their 1-0 win over Morocco to become the leading European goalscorer of all time in international football.
And Southampton full-back Soares has joked his team-mates from PAUL BROWN in Moscow should all get in on the act ahead of Monday’s clash with Iran in Saransk.
Soares said: “I hope he keeps it. Should we all grow lucky beards? Why not? If you look at our squad a lot of us have beards.
“I started in England and now I do not want to take it off because it is bringing me and us some luck.”
Ronaldo is chasing the Golden Boot after his sensational hat-trick against Spain, and his four goals so far are the most he has ever scored in a major tournament.
Soares said: “When he gets an opportunity, he normally scores. Most of the strikers need five chances to score a goal.
“It’s normal. If you put me as a striker, I’d need 10!
“With him, one or two and it’s one goal. You can count on him.”
Defender Jose Fonte said: “He’s just relentless – a machine scoring goals. We are blessed to have him.”
