WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY
ON occasions in the past, let’s be honest, World Cup performances have been a bit of a let-down for England fans.
At times such as those, a sense of perspective has been called for – a reminder that, however wretched the result, there are far more terrible things in the world.
I guess that’s why, thinking they might need to remind people of this, ITV arranged to have Piers Morgan’s face popping up on the screen tonight, just minutes after the final whistle in the England-Belgium game.
Yes, Piers and his breakfast pal Susanna Reid will be with us from 9.15pm (ITV) with an hourlong special, GOOD EVENING BRITAIN, reflecting the mood of the nation, or at least part of it, in the immediate aftermath of this final World Cup Group G fixture.
Of course, it turns out this show won’t need to adopt such a philosophical tone. Gareth Southgate’s side could lose 357-0 and England fans will still be fairly happy. But if Southgate still needs a tip or two, I dare say Piers will oblige.
Coverage of the game itself starts at 6.15pm (ITV). And if you’re thinking, ooh, no, I’d far rather watch Panama v Tunisia, then your strange tastes are catered for by ITV4. Both matches kick off at 7pm. ELSEWHERE, CELEBRITIES ON THE NHS FRONT LINE (9pm, BBC1) sees four well-known faces getting a taste of life at London’s King’s College Hospital. Ann Widdecombe, Jonnie Peacock, Michael Mosley and Stacey Dooley have all had a close personal link with the NHS, either having worked for it in some capacity or thanks to vital treatment they’ve undergone.
