WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

PEOPLE stare and cross the road from me. And jungle drums they all clear the way for me. Can you read my mind, can you see in the snow?

It’s not me saying all that stuff, I hasten to add. That would make me sound unhinged. No, those are the words sung by 80s pop legend Simon Le Bon on Duran Duran’s 1983 hit Is There Something I Should Know?

The answer to that question, of course, was: “Yes, Simon, you should know you’re talking twaddle, mate.”

But Simon didn’t care, because he and his mates were having their first No.1 with this song, adding to a catalogue of hits that already included Girls On Film, and, of course, that one about Rio Ferdinand dancing on some sand.

I mention this because the band are taking over BBC Four tonight for a special themed evening. It starts at 9pm with DURAN DURAN: THERE’S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW, where they look back on their highs and lows, then continues with DURAN DURAN: A NIGHT IN (10pm) where they chat about their favourite old telly, films, ads etc,

Wrapping things up at 11pm we then have DURAN DURAN: UNSTAGED, featuring a massive LA concert from 2010. ELSEWHERE, in

(8pm, Channel 4) we meet a 12-year-old girl from Somerset who wanted “a luxury party shed” and for some reason wasn’t told to get over herself. AND THE CRYSTAL MAZE: CELEBRITY SPECIAL (9pm, Channel 4) finds the legendary Richard Madeley heading up a team that also includes Ashley Roberts and Kate Garraway.
