I’VE come to dread family events. The problem is my brother’s girlfriend fancies herself as a singer – any excuse and she gets up to “entertain” us.

The problem is she’s not very good. She is loud and flat and a massive show off. Her ego is off the scale.

He seems to think she is marvellous but the rest of us can’t stand her warbling.

She ruined the street party I organised for the last Royal Wedding and now everyone is telling me I have to talk to my brother about my sister’s upcoming wedding.

In short, my sister doesn’t want Miss Piggy hogging the microphone again.

What can I say? Why do I always have to do everyone else’s dirty work? My sister is begging me to save her wedding reception but I just know my brother will rip my head off if I dare to utter a word of criticism. JANE SAYS: I’d keep out of this if I were you. Your sister’s wedding is her problem, not yours.

Either she, or one of your parents, needs to speak to your brother in advance. He must be told no-one is allowed to do more than two songs at the reception and he and his girlfriend are to respect that decision.

I understand that a lot of people enjoy karaoke at a party, but if this woman is in danger of getting up on stage – and not getting down again – then maybe your sister will have to rethink her entertainment and simply have a disco instead.

This is not worth starting a family feud or falling out over.

I get it that the singing woman is annoying, but you’ll have to pre-empt her and box clever in future.
