IT’S GETTING VERY MESSI

Feeble France can end Leo’s dream

- CHARLIE McCANN BET OF THE WEEK

LIONEL MESSI and his Argentina side meet France today in what could be the tie of the second round.

France won Group C but were jeered off by their fans following a dire goalless draw with Denmark.

But the result was hardly a surprise given that both sides only need a point to qualify.

The French can improve and are 4-7 to qualify for the quarter-finals with Argentina 5-4.

While Didier Deschamps’ men will have their backers at 13-10 in normal time, the draw at 21-10 appeals with France going through in extra time.

A poor Argentina needed that late Marco Rojo goal to beat Nigeria and reach the knockout stages.

But any team with the firepower of Messi and Sergio Aguero has to be feared.

Brazil are yet to hit the heights but they looked far livelier beating Serbia 2-0.

A second-round clash with Mexico is their reward after Javier Hernandez and Co were surprisingly beaten 3-0 by Sweden and had to settle for the runners-up spot in Group F.

Mexico’s opening victory against Germany now looks less impressive after the holders’ early exit and their collapse against Sweden was worrying.

Defender Hector Moreno is banned and Brazil have been priced at just 1-2 to win in 90 minutes.

The South Americans can be backed at 6-4 to cover a one-goal deficit and I expect that to land.

Belgium beat England 1-0 in a game neither side wanted to win but in topping Group G they now have an easier task against Japan.

Roberto Martinez’s men are strong favourites at 1-6 to qualify for the quarterfinals with Japan 7-2.

They are sure to be all the rage in normal time at 4-11 and I expect a comfortable win for the European outfit, who can cover the one-goal handicap at 11-10.
