MOPED muggers are using their loot to fund luxury holidays in party hotspots Ibiza and Ayia Napa.

The crime rate for the thugs is highest in late spring and early summer, according to Met Police figures.

Security experts say the gangs are now blowing their ill-gotten gains around the Mediterranean hotspots.

DJs at nightclubs can cost hundreds of pounds.

Two former moped thieves said they use the money to go to exclusive resorts, stay in expensive hotels and attend all night raves.

Their claims suggest that many of the young moped gang members live a double life on run-down council estates in Britain.

But on holiday they are able to splash out on expensive drinks and VIP clubs to mimic gangster rap videos.

Peter Williams, who runs private security firm LCS

Security, said that from

May to July the moped criminals become very active before going quieter until the end of August when the spate of attacks begin again.

He said: “Between May, June and July, the moped criminals become very active. Then around midJuly it goes quieter.

“A flying squad officer told me they are all over in Ibiza or Ayia Napa partying.

“Then it all starts up again from September in time for Christmas.”

The Met’s latest figures show that in the 12 months to May this year there was a record 22,025 crimes with a link to moped gangs – around 60 a day.
