HE is the new hero of England after that vital penalty save against Colombia.

But before we saw his heart-stopping antics on Tuesday night, Jordan Pickford was one of the least known of the Three Lions.

Here NADINE LINGE digs out 15 fascinating facts about the Everton goalkeeper...

“Picky” was born in Washington, near to Sunderland, on March 7 1994, making him a Pisces.

His dad, Lee, used to be a gamekeeper but is now a builder. Mum Sue worked at her son’s school until recently. Jordan has an older brother, Richard.

Sue would take him to training in taxis if his dad was not around with the car. He would eat chicken and pasta out of plastic tubs on the journey.

He was not in goal at school – Jordan was a forward nicknamed Speedy. He was also good at tennis and running, with “focus and determination”.

He has revealed he was inspired by watching Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

Sunderland snapped him up aged eight and he joined Everton last year for £25million – making him the most expensive keeper in British history.

Picky, 24, met Megan Davison, 22, at school and they have been an item ever since. She has been photographed wearing an engagement ring. He stands a relatively small 6ft 1in, and was mocked by 6ft 6in rival Thibaut Courtois after he let in Adnan Januzaj’s strike. He said: “Jordan Pickford is 10cm smaller than me. I would have caught it.” He was at Washington Boxing Club between the ages of nine and 11 and loves golf and motocross. Jordan loves popular high street peri-peri chicken chain Nando’s. Although he is now on £90,000 per week, he went without Sky aged 18 because of the cost. He was Under-21 player of the year in 2017. His catchphrase is Get The Rave On, which he hashtags in tweets. It comes from a post he wrote featuring a chant about Sunderland staying up and arch rivals Newcastle going down in 2015/16. When Sunderland later got relegated, he told of his sadness about the job losses it brought. He said: “Seeing people you have known for a long time losing their jobs, it’s not nice.” He’s no flash in the pan – Picky has caps for England Under-16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21.
