good results against them – so to me it doesn’t really matter.”

Former Sweden star Hakan Mild went further. The ex-Wimbledon midfielder said: “They think they are so good but they are not.

“It’s spoilt young people who make a ton of money.

“The English are easy to score against. You don’t get afraid when you see this team. It suits Sweden well. They do not have the total desperation required.

“England have just played a long, tough game with extra time and I also think they have a little bit of hubris.

“They think they are going to win and they will get an unpleasant surprise on Saturday.”

England have a poor record against Sweden, winning just one of their eight competitive clashes.

Even former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson does not rate their chances against his home nation.

“It would be easier for England to beat Brazil than to beat Sweden in my opinion,” said Eriksson.

“If anyone in the squad thinks they have an easy game on Saturday, they’re wrong. It’ll be the most difficult game they’ll have played so far, they can bet on that.

“Sweden won’t be impressed by Harry Kane or whoever is in the England team. Not at all.”

But England boss Southgate insists they will not underestimate Sweden.

“It will be a tough game for sure, because Sweden are often underestimated and I have real respect for Sweden,” he said.

“They are always more than the sum of their parts. Our historic record against them is another one we have to put right.

“I think we have always viewed them at our level and I don’t think that’s right because their tournament record is better than ours.”
