THE poisoning of two addicts could help catch the Russian agent behind the Novichok attacks.

Charlie Rowley, 45, and Dawn Sturgess, 44, were fighting for their lives last night after being exposed to the poison.

The pair are believed to have stumbled across a canister contaminated with the deadly substance in a park in Salisbury, Wilts.

Investigators reckon it was the same batch of Novichok which was used to try to kill Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, 67, and his daughter Yulia, 33.

Detectives hope they will be able to use CCTV from the park to identify the would-be assassin.

Chemical weapons expert Hamish de Bretton-Gordon said: “I understand that the security services and the police are pretty convinced that they are going to get a resolution to who attacked (the Skripals).” Met Police officers are believed to have been going door to door at houses and businesses around Queen Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury asking for CCTV. Yesterday firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were seen entering Mr Rowley’s housing association flat in Amesbury, Wilts.

Security minister Ben Wallace has demanded the Russians reveal “what happend” in Salisbury but President Putin’s regime has denied any involvement in the Novichok attack.
