LOVING LION’S ROAR POWER

Gosden out to master Masar

- BRETT WILLIAMS

DERBY winner Masar is 6-4 favourite to claim today’s Eclipse at Sandown (2.10) but Roaring Lion has plenty of appeal at 3-1.

Victory would see Masar emulate fellow Epsom Derby winners Sea The Stars and Golden Horn in completing the double.

But John Gosden’s Roaring Lion was impressive in the Dante and was not beaten by much in the Epsom classic. But he has drifted from 11-4.

In a fascinating clash of the generations, 2,000 Guineas conqueror Saxon Warrior is also taking a step down in trip after failing to shine in two attempts over 1m4f.

The fact Aidan O’Brien is allowing his charge to run just a week after disappointing in the Irish Derby suggest he is confident of a bold show and punters have backed him accordingly into 7-2 from 5-1.

Unibet have seen a little cash for Happily at 7-1 but she should not be good enough to win and 2016 winner Hawkbill has not looked the same horse in two starts this term.

Forest Ranger has been given a break since his Chester victory and could surprise a few at 12-1. He looks solid each way material.

Muthmir has ideal conditions in the Sprint (12.20) and 5-2 looks decent value. Mr Lupton is a smart handicapper and has been clipped into 7-1 from 9-1. Tigre Du Terre’s price has contracted into 8-1 from 14-1 in the 12.55 and after a great run in France last month.

Unibet ambassador Richard Hannon was very confident his charge can reach a place in his exclusive Unibet blog which is available on-line now.

Preening has been punted in the Distaff (1.30), now 5-1 from 7-1.

At Haydock, Horseplay is 3-1 to bag the Lancashire Oaks (1.10) but the form of her York second to Coronet has been knocked so she looks opposable in favour of God Given at 7-2 who took the Pinnacle Stakes last time.

Unibet are paying a quarter odds the first four in the Old Newton Cup at 1.45 where Atty Persse heads the betting at 4-1 and after Withhold secured a gamble for Roger Charlton last week, punters are confident of another touch.
