Keep calm and we will walk this one, Gareth

- ALEX APATI

MY World Cup journey has come to an end but there is still plenty of football out in Russia – and all eyes will be on England today. Gareth Southgate’s side will look to book a place in the semifinals in what will be the biggest game of their playing careers. But the odds suggest Harry Kane and pals could walk it against a Sweden side who have been hit and miss at best. They were poor against South Korea, unlucky against Germany, dominant against Mexico and workmanlike against Switzerland – so England should not have much to fear.

The emphasis is on should, though. This has been the tournament of surprises and at 2-5 to progress, it will be interesting to see just how well the Three Lions handle that favourites tag.

Kane is your most-likely scorer at 11-10, which may well be the bet of the weekend.

He is averaging two goals a game in Russia and will be full of confidence heading into this one. And 10-11 says England will win this. That is certainly the result we are all cheering for – despite it putting Southgate and the boys one step closer to a record-breaking industry payout.

Provided England do progress we’ll know by close of play who their opponents will be.

Will it be the hosts or the dark horses?

Having sat with Russian fans as Iago Aspas’s penalty was saved last Sunday, it is safe to say they are confident they can go all the way.

And a healthy 18-1 says they will do exactly that.

While that is probably a bet I would be swerving, I am not put off by the 11-8 on them reaching the semis against a Croatia side who are lucky to be here themselves.
