Nick’s homework lands a monster
BUILDER Nick Proctor has landed the biggest tench of the year at a colossal
13lb 1oz.
The contractor spent the last few months trying to unlock the mysteries of a secret Midlands stillwater.
With the venue choked with weed, the
39-year-old pre-baited from a boat, then raked the lake bed to ensure his rigs and feed were perfectly placed and presented.
His latest session produced 14 tench, topped by his monster, plus a bonus 12lb 5oz bream. The bites came on fake casters over a bed of mixed particle. Early sales of the new three-rod licence permit have already burst past the 100,000 barrier.
The option – ideal for specimen anglers and carpers – was introduced in April as an alternative to buying two rod licences, which allow coarse anglers to use up to four rods.
The three-rod option also offers a saving of £15. Top big fish all-rounder Terry Knight said: “The new licence was a good option and has been welcomed across the sport.”
Ruby Terry got her river season off to a flying start when she bagged a new personal best barbel of 15lb 10oz. And partner Ashley Barker made it double delight when he braced the capture with a 15lb 1oz whiskers.
The Sheffielders fished the River Trent to bank eight other barbel, including five double-figure specimen.
Crack match outfit, Ted Carter Southport, have taken silver in the World Club Championships on Hungary’s Szeged Rowing Course after just finishing behind France.
