Danny’s quick to lap it up

DANNY BUCHAN set the fastest-ever lap around Knockhill yesterday to take charge on the opening day of round five of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

The FS-3 Racing Kawasaki rider scorched to the top of the timesheets with a hot lap of 47.473secs at the short but challenging Scottish track.

“To be honest, it came pretty easily,” said Buchan.

“We were fast straight away and we’re just building momentum. The more time I get on the bike, the better I get.”

Buchan came to the fore in the closing minutes of the second session, shooting from sixth to first and knocking Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty from the top spot.

Brain

Earlier, points leader Leon Haslam had been the man in charge as he clocked the fastest time in first practice and had been quickest for most of the second session.

But after crashing out with around 20 minutes to go the top spot changed several times between Jake Dixon, Dan Linfoot and Laverty before Buchan made his move.

“I did quite a good run there and it wasn’t too much of a stress, which is quite nice,” he added.

“It wasn’t like a qualifying session where you just take your brain out for a few laps.

“We’ll now work towards race day and see what we can do, but it’s nice to end day one at the sharp end.”

Dixon finished second, just 0.005secs adrift on his RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki, as Laverty ended the session third.
