NO KLOPP KO FOR KARIUS

- By IAN WHITTELL

JURGEN KLOPP is set to start the new season with Loris Karius as Liverpool’s No.1.

The Kop boss insisted that his keeper’s Champions League Final horror show was “100 per cent” down to concussion.

Klopp had looked at replacing the stopper after his nightmare gifted Real Madrid the trophy in Kiev.

But interest in Brazil ace Alisson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak has come to nothing due to their sky-high prices and now Klopp is ready to stick with Karius after all.

Klopp revealed that it was Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer who first tipped him off that his goalkeeper’s blunders could be due to the bang on the head he got in a challenge from Sergio Ramos.

The Reds boss said: “After four days I got a call from Franz Beckenbauer, who is a good friend.

“He called me and told he came from a doctor and said, ‘Your goalkeeper had a concussion’.

“I got all the pictures from different perspectives, saw it and thought, ‘How can we all think that the boy who didn’t show any weakness in that game until then made these big mistakes?’.”

Tests showed that the clash with Ramos, which came ahead of Karius’ two huge errors, had left him with a concussion.

Klopp said: “He was influenced by that knock, that is 100 per cent.”
