WE’RE GERM FIGHTERS
JERMAINE McGILLVARY says Huddersfield are using ‘Germ warfare’ to fend off a relegation battle.
The Giants are dicing with danger in eighth, just two points above the bottom four with only three games left.
Winger McGillvary admits the players should be embarrassed at the trouble they find themselves in.
But the England star believes things will soon start to look healthy again thanks to coach Simon ‘Germ’ Woolford.
Better
He said: “That’s the nickname he picked up when he was playing because he was a grubby so and so.
“We all call him that but he’s a great bloke and an even better coach and he’s doing a very good job.”
Huddersfield were second bottom when previous coach Rick Stone was sacked after a 48-10 defeat by Wigan in March.
The Giants take on the Warriors again tonight and McGillvary says confidence is now far higher under Woolford.
Huddersfield have won six of their last seven Super League games.
McGillvary added: “We should look at the table and be a bit embarrassed at where we are but we should also be proud of what we’re doing now.
“It’s good to look at the table and see who we can drag into the mix.
“We’ve got three games left and need to win all three to be guaranteed a top-eight spot.
“I would never take a dig at Rick for what he sacrificed for the club because he left his family behind in Australia.
“But things are a lot happier now and we have come a long way since then. We have moved on from that era.”
Warrington take on Catalans at home in tonight’s other Super League game. QUEENSLAND avoided a whitewash by beating New South Wales 18-12 to lose the State of Origin series 2-1.
