For Dragons

- 22 22

STEVE McNAMARA’S Catalans jumped up to sixth place after scrapping their way to a vital point.

The Dragons were bottom two months ago and in all sorts of trouble but are now on fire.

But this draw – against a Wolves side gunning for a top-four spot – could just safeguard their Super League lives.

It lifts them above Wakefield and keeps them ahead of Huddersfield and – crucially – four points better off than Leeds in ninth.

But they had to really scrap for it against a Wolves side who were just as hungry for the points.

Former Wolves forward Benjamin Jullien gave the Dragons the lead with an early try but Warrington struck back empathically.

Bryson Goodwin, Josh Charnley and Harvey Livett all touched down to give the home side a 16-8 lead. But McNamara’s men finished the first half strongly with tries from Micky McIlorum and Tony Gigot.

Josh Drinkwater – the mastermind behind their recent run of wins – kicked four goals for a

20-18 half-time lead. Torrential rain made handling more difficult after the break and both sides found tries hard to come by.

Instead Wolves edged themselves back into the lead with two penalties from Tyrone Roberts.

Catalans’ hopes were dented when Mickael Simon was sin binned for a professional foul in the

68th minute.

But a Drinkwater penalty hauled them level two minutes later to set up the nail-biting finish, as Roberts and Drinkwater both missed drop goal attempts to win it.
