Rose is so shirty now

- By JEREMY CROSS

DANNY ROSE admits he has gone from hating the England shirt to loving it.

Rose was part of the England squad that returned home in shame from Euro 2016 following their humiliating exit to Iceland.

The Tottenham defender wanted to hide from the public and revealed the experience made him dread the thought of playing for his country.

But now Rose, 28, is feeling proud as punch again and is focused on hanging around for Euro 2020 and the next World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

He said: “I am 28 now and you don’t know if this is going to be your last tournament as the squad is getting younger and younger.

“But I have to look here at Ashley Young playing all the games. He is 33 and it has given me hope.

“I am looking forward to going to the Euros and hopefully another World Cup, as this experience has been amazing.

“That scene at the end was very emotional and I cannot believe I am looking forward to putting an England shirt on again because a few years ago, I did not see that happening.

“I am not going to lie, it was not enjoyable considering whether we won or lost we’d still get battered.

“Everyone had really turned on us – and rightly so. But we know we have managed to turn the opinions from two years ago.

“Now we have to keep going, look forward to preparing for the Euros. We have to try and kick on and the aim is to win the Euros.”
