TORIES ARE REVOLTING

- by ALEXANDER BROWN

THERESA May was last night accused of betraying both sides of the Brexit divide.

Publishing the Government’s plans for leaving the EU in a much-heralded white paper, she has now been accused of giving Britain the “worst of both worlds”.

EU judges will continue to tell us what to do, enjoying a seat on a new joint committee of UK and EU officials.

An end to free movement of people between Britain and Europe is introduced, but is replaced by new “mobility” rules allowing visa-free travel for tourism and temporary work.

New Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab hailed the white paper as “bold, ambitious but also pragmatic”.

However, the plans were last night blasted by Remainers and Leavers alike.

Eloise Todd, chief executive of the Best for Britain campaign, claimed the Prime Minister’s Brexit blueprint was “inconsistent”.

She said: “How will we shape rules when we have lost our decision-making power in the EU on goods?

“How will we have no hard border in Ireland and no freedom of movement?”

Brexiteer ringleader Jacob Rees-Mogg was also furious with the plans.

He said: “There are very few signs of the Prime Minister’s famous red lines.

“It is a pale imitation of the paper prepared by David Davis, a bad deal for Britain.”

Lord Green of Deddington, chairman of Migration Watch UK, also blasted the plans. He said: “It is not enough to ‘control’ the number of migrant workers from the EU, these numbers must be significantly reduced.”
