IT’S COME HOME

3 Lions are No1

- from JERRY LAWTON in MOSCOW jerry.lawton@dailystar.co.uk

THE Three Lions anthem made history last night in a fitting tribute to England’s “fearless” young football heroes.

Gareth Southgate’s team won over the nation despite losing Wednesday’s heartbreaking World Cup semifinal with Croatia. Captain Harry Kane is set to win the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. And England can still clinch third place if they beat Belgium in today’s play-off. Their efforts were rewarded last night when Frank Skinner, David Baddiel and the Lightning Seeds’ anthem topped the charts yet again.

The “Football’s Coming Home” song became the first record to reach No1 four times with the same line-up. It has now sold 1.6million copies.

Comic Skinner, who was gutted Southgate’s side could not emulate the World Cup-winning heroes of 1966, said: “I must say as consolation prizes go...”

Baddiel, who kissed his song-writing pal as England battled through to the last four, added: “Well, this is awkward.” A spokesman for the Official Charts Company said: “Football may not have come home this week, but at least something did.”

BBC Radio 1 Official Chart host Scott Mills added: “England gave us everything at this World Cup.

“The whole country got swept away with it, and Three Lions being the official No1 shows how we really got behind our amazing team.”
