MANCHESTER United fans face shelling out almost £200 for the team’s new kit.

The Red Devils’ 2018-19 home strip – including the shirt with a name on the back, shorts and socks – will cost supporters £192.85.

The eye-watering price is almost £70 more than Bayern Munich fans pay to watch their side for an entire season.

The German champions froze their annual seat prices at

£124 for the fifth year in a row.

A cheaper “replica” version of United’s new strip is also available, but will still cost more than £125. Maker Adidas said the premium version features “climachill” technology to help the wearer stay cool “in the heat of battle”. It also has an athletic fit with an innovative design in homage to the club’s formation

140 years ago. But supporters claim they are being ripped off. One said: “I have to admit the new Man Utd home kit is a great bold look.

“Too bad it’s so damned expensive. Could justify it when kits lasted two years, but with annual changes it is too much.”

Another added: “The new Man Utd kit is beautiful... but it’s too expensive.”

Despite the price tag, the Adidas website crashed yesterday as fans flocked to buy the latest gear.

The home shirt features a “train track” graphic, in reference to United’s original name – Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Cricket and Football Club. Richard Arnold, United’s group managing director, said: “There are many great moments in this club’s fantastic history.

“This shirt pays homage to 1878, the year we were founded, and marks 140 years of football success.”

He added: “Adidas has shown how innovative they are with designs – taking a moment from the past and reshaping it for supporters into a jersey which I am sure the fans will love.”

Inigo Turner, design director at Adidas Football, said: “We’ve reinterpreted this story in a bold and contemporary way, connecting the past to the future, and combining the best in performance with street wearability.”
