Henry will be Pir-fect boss

- By DAVID WOODS

ROBERT PIRES has tipped Thierry Henry to be a top boss and reckons his pal will start off in the Premier League.

Henry, who was Roberto Martinez’s assistant as Belgium reached the World Cup semi-finals, announced this week he will quit his job at Sky so he can coach full-time.

Pires, who was in the Arsenal 2004 ‘Invincibles’ team with Henry, said he was thrilled his fellow former Footballer of the Year was going all out to fulfil his dream. “He’s ready,” said Pires. “Now he can focus on the new job, on being a manager. I hope he will find the right club.

“I don’t know if a chairman will give Thierry the opportunity but he will be a good manager. If you ask all the Belgian players, especially Romelu Lukaku, they say they learned from Thierry every day.”

Pires revealed Henry had ambitions to get a job in England’s top flight.

“He loves the Premier League, for the spirit, the competition, the big, big clubs,” he added.

“It’s good news for football. We need some new faces on the bench.”

Another former team-mate of Henry, Jeremie Aliadiere, said Henry reminded him of ex-Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, with his encyclopedic knowledge. “He’s like Arsene, he knows everything about football,” said the Frenchman.

“He just lives football, he breathes football.

“Anything we were discussing with Wenger he always had the answer before anybody else. He just knew everything, he was like a football book.” ARSENAL LEGENDS v Real Madrid Legends, Emirates Stadium, Saturday September 8 (kick-off 2pm). To buy tickets visit arsenal.com
