3 HELD OVER ACID ATTACK ON TODDLER

- By KATE NELSON

THREE men have been arrested after a three-year-old had acid sprayed in his face in an “evil” and “deliberate” attack.

The boy is recovering after the horror assault at a Home Bargains store.

Detectives have been working “24 hours without rest” to find out a motive.

Ch Supt Mark Travis said that a “dispute between communities” could be to blame.

He added: “The family are coming to terms with something that is quite shocking. It’s a difficult time for them.” The suspects, aged 22, 25, and 26, remained in custody last night after being held in London on suspicion of GBH.

A 39-year-old man from Wolverhampton who was arrested on Sunday is also being quizzed.

The attack happened on Saturday afternoon in Tallow Hill, Worcester. It was captured on CCTV, although police have not released images of the attack itself.

Ch Supt Travis, from West Mercia Police, added: “We have looked at the movement of people in the footage throughout the area.”

He added that officers “consider this to be a deliberate act against the little boy”.

Paramedics took the toddler to hospital with serious burns to his arm and face.

He has since been discharged, but the longterm effect of his injuries are not known.

Police thanked the public for the “fantastic” response to their CCTV appeal in the hunt for suspects.

The attack is not terrorrelated, officers confirmed.
