WOLVES IN £5m RAID FOR JOAO

Top flight new boys to land Portugal star

- By STEVE MADELEY

WOLVES are poised to complete a double swoop for Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho and top Spanish defender Jonny.

Moutinho, 31, is set to move to Molineux from Monaco for £5m to add to the growing Portuguese influence at the Midlands club after flying in yesterday for a medical.

And Wolves also hope to clinch the signing of Celta Vigo full-back Jonathan Castro Otto – known as Jonny.

The 24-year-old is due to join Atletico Madrid but then go to Wolves on a season-long loan.

The Premier League new boys want Moutinho to form a mouth-watering midfield combination with fellow countryman Ruben Neves.

And ‘super-agent’

Jorge Mendes – who has a hotline to Wolves’ Chinese owners Fosun – has brokered a deal to bring him to England. Moutinho has been capped 113 times by Portugal and was part of the squad that won Euro 2016.

He also made three appearances at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

He will become the fourth Portugal star in the Wolves squad alongside the new signing of Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patricio, Neves and winger Ivan Cavaleiro. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is also Portuguese, as are first-team regulars Diogo

Jota and Helder Costa. Mendes, who has Cristiano Ronaldo and

Jose Mourinho on his books, has become a major power broker at Molineux and has helped Wolves sign three of his clients this summer.

Moutinho and Patricio will play alongside Mexico striker Raul Jimenez, who is on a seasonlong loan from Benfica.

Jonny’s arrival could signal the end of Wolves’ pursuit of Manchester City wideman Oleksandr Zinchenko.

They had a £16m bid accepted but have grown tired of waiting for the 21-year-old Ukrainian to accept.

Jonny can operate at left or rightback and will provide cover for Matt Doherty and Barry Douglas.

Nuno still wants a centre-back and a striker before the new Premier League season starts.
