Don’t slam ’em Pike!

ENDERS CAST IN IAN’S FIRING LINE

DAD’S Army star Ian Lavender has slammed some of the cast of EastEnders.

The actor thinks they are less than word perfect when it comes to learning their lines for the show.

Ian, famous as “Stupid Boy” Private Pike, had a guest role on the BBC soap for four years.

But he told Radio Times: “I’ve got nothing but admiration for all the soaps, for the getting on to the screen of three and four episodes a week.

“The pure discipline of that, everybody’s got to do their job.

“Sadly, most of the time it’s let down by the actors who haven’t done their homework.”

Dad’s Army celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The sitcom, which ran for 80 episodes from 1968 to 1977, turned Arthur Lowe, Clive Dunn and John Le Mesurier into household names.

Ian adds: “It was the typical show that all the family could watch at the same time in the same room – there are not many of those about at the moment.”

Asked if he thought Private Pike really was “a stupid boy” – Captain Mainwaring’s catchphrase – the star said: “I always maintain that Pike wasn’t an idiot, he was naive.

“More often than not, he was right.”

FORMER Dad’s Army actor Ian Lavender – famed for playing thicko Private Pike – has blasted his young ex-EastEnders co-stars who “don’t do their homework”.
