I CAN’T stop comparing myself to other people and feeling inadequate.

My step-sister is a real high-flier. She has her own business, a gorgeous husband and fab kids.

Her nanny earns more than I do and I can tell she looks down on me even though my parents insist that’s simply not true.

Sometimes I wonder if they consider me a bit of an embarrassment.

I don’t have a boyfriend, a flat or a car and I still live at home.

I know that my folks are itching to downsize, but I’m the proverbial elephant in the room.

My job is OK but nothing special and my friends are as exciting as overcooked pasta.

My last boyfriend (in 2012) dumped me with the words: “You bring me down.” I’m the first to admit that it pretty much sums me up.

JANE SAYS: You’ve very successfully listed everything that is wrong with you and your life, but what are you actually going to do about turning things around?

Why don’t you take a leaf out of your stepsister’s book?

Can she give you any tips or hints on building a successful career and relationship?

As for your parents, perhaps if they do downsize and help you to rent a place of your own, then you’ll feel challenged and invigorated?

One thing is very clear – standing still is not an option. You have to be proactive.

Make lists and change everything in your life. If you don’t, then I fear you’ll sink even further into oblivion.

Are you exercising, getting plenty of free air and eating healthily too?

Your life only has so many years on the clock…
