Hoban targets Clarets
ABERDEEN new boy Tommie Hoban knows all about Burnley and is predicting a Europa League baptism of fire.
The 24-year-old has joined on a season-long loan from Watford and will go straight into the Dons’ squad for tonight’s second-round qualifying first leg at Pittodrie.
The versatile defender, who previously had a loan spell at Blackburn, has faced Burnley before and admits he cannot wait to play in Europe.
Hoban said: “I’m really excited to be involved in such a big game.
Tough
“It’s the kind of thing you train for and live for as a footballer.
“I played against Burnley quite a few times when they were in the Championship but they’ve got quite a different team to then.
“They had a fantastic season last year so it’s going to be a very tough game but everyone will be looking forward to it. I’m sure we’ll do well.”
Burnley are returning to European competition after a 51-year absence, while Aberdeen have two European trophies and more than 130 games under their belt.
Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “There’s not a huge gulf between the clubs but there is a huge gulf between the leagues. Where Burnley operate is a completely different level in terms of finances and the rest of it.
“We are a very proud club and we back ourselves. There’s no inferiority complex from us as a club.”
