get over it. “All of us want to help Mesut feel like it is his home here with us, like a family and it is a family for every player,” said Emery.

“He arrived on Sunday to travel and I prefer to give him normality in the team and for him to feel good with us.

“Mesut has the respect of every player here. It is a personal decision from Mesut. I respect it.”

Emery says the German will not play against Atletico Madrid today but could feature against Paris St-Germain on Saturday.

He said: “He is very well. He came three days before [the end of his holiday]. We wanted to give him normality and make him feel free.

“For Ozil it’s one thing in the national team and another thing with us. For us the normality helps him to feel good every day in the training sessions.

“This normality is best for him and I am sure he is going to have a big season with us.

“I want to help him and everybody in the club is thinking like me – to help him feel happy and to express his quality.”

Meanwhile, Petr Cech has told new goalkeeping rival, 26-year-old Bernd Leno, he has a fight on his hands to knock him off his perch as Arsenal’s No.1 next season.

Cech, 36, has the No.1 on his training top and when asked if that was a message to Leno, he said: “I hope so. Hopefully it’s not going to be only on this shirt.

“The manager hasn’t said who is going to be No.1 yet but the whole team has the same message.

“Everyone works as hard as they can and the manager makes the choice when pre-season is over.

“I do my job as well as I can. Obviously the manager has the decision who is going to be in the starting line-up and who isn’t.

“We have a large squad so there will always be people left behind, but we will see how it goes in my position.”
